New Voices: Taki Rua Productions: Writers' Block Reading

New Voices: Taki Rua Productions: Writers' Block Sat 13 October, 1pm

Writers' Block was first formed in 2001 by Taki Rua Productions and led by playwright Hone Kouka. It was formed to provide a safe, dynamic and creative environment for Maori and Pacific Island Writers, primarily writing for the stage.

In 2007 it boasts not only a healthy array of Maori and Pacific Island writers, but also Asian and South East Asian writers. Though initially focusing on theatre the work of Writers' Block now covers most aspects of writing; theatre, film, television, radio and print. Writers' Block has also had it fair share of success with award winning short film scripts, internationally acclaimed stage plays and multi award winning poetry.

Taki Rua Productions - Writers' Block @ City Gallery, Wellington will provide a small taste of the most recent work and will take place in amongst the exhibition Te Huringa/Turning Points: Maori Empowerment and Pakeha Colonisation.

Writers whose work will be read include: Moira Wairama, Jason Te Kare, Leilani Unasa, Terese McCleod, Miria George, Whiti Hereaka and Alice Te Punga Somerville.
